Return To Ostagar Leaked?
Jan 10
A few days ago a rumour emerged claiming that the long awaited DLC, Return to Ostagar, had been leaked via the internet. Rest assured; we have been investigating this information since its initial emergence. BioWare has been informed and we will be reporting our findings shortly. Whilst we like to keep a free house for discussion, please be reminded that we here at greywardens.com will not condone piracy.

I'm not surprise, there had been many games that leaked before….. something that bioware must be aware that maybe many gamers would probably download this leaked version since bioware delayed the dlc over and over again……..

Bioware goood, pirating baaad. Doesn't surprise me though, Dragon Age is pretty popular and I'm sure Bioware is having a hard enough time keeping things under lock and key. And by the aboves comment, you assume that its justified to steal something just because it's been delayed? I won't touch pirated stuff because I rightfully don't trust what I would get and because it's wrong.
Comment by Bercilak on January 10, 2010 at 4:58 pm
So because they decided to delay the release of their own property, that makes it okay to steal it??
Really?
Comment by Aladisa on January 10, 2010 at 5:10 pm
Well i'm totally against the piracy thing myself.I can wait patience is a virtue ^^.

“long awaited DLC”…you mean the one that was just announced less than two months ago and was delayed a week ago? Jesus christ, people need to learn some patience…But I suppose those losers who beat the game in two days would need something else to occupy their time.
I’ll never cease to be amazed at gamers and their sense of entitlement when it comes to updates and expansions.
Comment by Jonaleth on January 10, 2010 at 9:45 pm
I will never cease to be amazed by how industrious pirates can be… A shame it isn't for a more noble cause; If the same effort were directed at curing disease or ending world hunger, we'd be living in a Utopia.
I just wanted to post since no one else seems to have confirmed this rumor yet: It has definitely been leaked, I saw it available on a major torrent tracker earlier today, and, after checking again, it seems to be everywhere. Looks like it got posted sometime yesterday:(
While I'm usually a big fan of torrents, and file sharing in general, leaking software before the developer has had a chance to finish it is just going way to far… More than just stealing sales, this is bound to cause major internal issues at Bioware; Considering they specifically decided to delay release so that they can bring it up to standard for us, this has got feel like a slap in the face, especially with so many games being rushed to release these days. Hopefully this will not unduly impact future development.
Comment by Illiani on January 10, 2010 at 10:54 pm
Unfortunately I can confirm that the DLC has indeed been released. We at greywardens.com were hoping to delay having to announce the confirmation until after BioWare had a chance to release their own statement.
While, arguably, RtO was bound to be found on a torrent site within a day of release, its just disheartening to see it pirated so early. I'm hoping that there are still a large number of day-one purchasers, otherwise this may make BioWare reconsider their 'two years of DLC'–especially after all the non-piracy hassle they've been getting.
While I am sure that there are a number of 'fans' who are pleased to see RtO leaked, we've yet to see the long term damage that this has caused. This is certainly a sad turn of events.
Comment by Bio-Boy 3000 on January 10, 2010 at 11:30 pm
The funny thing about these 'fans' that are downloading this leaked version of the game, is that most of them are not smart enough not to log after they finish it. So when their profile gets updated, they have the "In War, Victory" achievement that is only available from finishing RtO (I assume).
Hell, I have even found a whole group at the social site dedicated to talking about the illegal version (amoung other thing). They banned me from viewing it because I was using it to find people and leave wry comments about them enjoying the leaked copy that I didn't have legally.

I totally agree!! Bravo Jonaleth! I myself will also be waiting for the offical release.Piracy just screws everything up for every1 in the long run
Comment by Aladisa on January 11, 2010 at 12:00 am
Oh! just wondering but couldn't any1 using illegal version get their bioware accts suspended ? Not that it would deter any1 but just a thought.
Comment by Illiani on January 11, 2010 at 12:16 am
It's hard to say without reading the EULA–if I have the time after work tomorrow I'll take a butchers and get back to you. We've a number of very interesting articles planned for release tomorrow evening (GMT) so it's going to be a busy night for me.
Its also hard to guess what action BioWare may, or may not take, as none of us are in the industry. I suspect that BioWare will look at what can be done and compare that to what is cost-efficient.
The problem with suspending accounts, is that in the end all you are doing is creating more pirates. Unable to access their accounts, or play the game (as an example), those you would punish will just pirate your game because it has become the only way they can play at all.
Comment by RageGT on January 11, 2010 at 12:42 am
I really don't mind self righteous people like Bio Boy here who did it and posted about it here, thinking they're insulting me by posting about it on my profile at social bioware. I never tried to hide it that I got it to begin with. It's not like I'm making CD's of the DLC and selling them for profit! I give my work for free on my website and I still sold out my songs CD thanks to free download.
I want it out too! I'm paying for it and installing the real thing as soon as it is out.
But you can't really blame me for drolling all over this game and well, EA had my money in advance when I pre-ordered my CE and then they delayed release where I live for 3 weeks! Was it wrong for me to get a T copy of the game that I had paid for 3 weeks before it was released? I don't really think so! (release date was Nov 18 for me) Was I happy to delete the image, uninstall and reinstall the real deal? Definitely.
Let's just say that this time EA will get my money after. Like a 30 days invoice which is so common in business transactions.
The truth is out there… the product is finished and the reason for the delay is not on Bioware's end. And some stupid people are already saying they are disappointed with it and how people should not buy it. Even people who are so pure that will never play a leaked version are quick to insult Bioware and say they will not buy or want their money back if already bought the points for it.
I can guarantee you guys that it is well worth the price when the real thing is out. I'm definitely buying it! 5 bucks is really cheap for RtO! It is a great DLC, awesome addition to the story either we play it with a post-game saved char or a ongoing one!
How can someone get disappointed with an extra content that adds a lot to the whole story, has an epic location revisited, very cool items and quest line and can be a flashback for an already dead hero? (if he sacrificed himself for Ferelden, like my main movie char did)
Now, psycho terrorism like saying it has virus, it will bug your game or it will burn your computer to hell is just so childish. As judging other people is too!

I play a lot of Modern Warfare 2 and its amazing how many people pirated that game since it has come out and how many people have hacked and modded the game to get an unfair advantage in the multiplayer. It has been a great thing to be able to play games like DAO and not have to worry about that kind of thing and its really sad that those players that have downloaded the pirated versions are without a doubt going to ruin it in some way for the rest of us. They complained so badly about not getting it and now they have it and in the twist of fate they may just be contributing to BioWare looking to postpone the DLC even further, and any further DLC in the future, if that is they way they choose go.
Though, I am curious if the leaked DLC is just available on PC or are X360 modders getting it for their systems as well? Regardless of whether those people are on X360 or PC or PS3 those people who download the pirated version should have their accounts suspended and face penalties. They ruin the gaming experience for everyone else. Its just not cool!
Comment by Sir Ulrich on January 11, 2010 at 1:56 am
What is even more funny is when a proclaimed 'self-righteous' person makes such slanderous lies about a group of people. Got any evidence to state everyone in that group has a pirate copy of the game? No? Better start retracting that statement then eh?
Comment by JimH on January 11, 2010 at 2:07 am
Jesus, its not the entire game. Its a 35 minute DLC. Yes, i downloaded it. I will also buy the official release, along with every other DLC bioward puts out… Curious if the people acting self righteous has every downloaded songs, or movies.. give me a break
Comment by Illiani on January 11, 2010 at 2:38 am
I think, that people are less angry with it being pirated–as I mentioned before, it was going to happen–what's got people's goat is that it was pirated prior to the release. That combined with BioWare's delay and posed reasons for delays. I think that people, in general, as just angry 'full stop'.
Comment by RageGT on January 11, 2010 at 9:13 am
I'd say that the long term damage will be another million bucks on EA's bank account as soon as the real thing is released! The whole morality issue in this seems to me:
1) People who think sex is a sin before marriage
2) People who enjoy sex whenever they have maturity to handle a sexually active life
1+2) They all get married at some point… well, and divorced too is sex is bad!

@ SS – "you mean the one that was just announced less than two months ago and was delayed a week ago?" NO, I think what she meant was the one who was supposed to come out on Christmas and was already delayed twice. There's a bit of difference in that which makes the lack of patience in this case less condemnable, wouldn't you agree?
Now, this being said, if the release has indeed leaked, that's bad. I'm nowhere interested in following that trail myself, no matter the delay of the official release. It's one thing to be upset for not getting what was promised to you and a very different thing to steal it. It's a pity such things happen, not necessarily that users download it, but that there are actually people who made it possible in the first place. :(

To say that this is going to at all effect day one sales or have any damage to sales is the standard line that Harvard students proved wrong in there study about pirating and the effects on sales, majority of pirates that would have paid will still pay for the official content and the rest would only have downloaded it anyways or not got it at all.
Interesting fact some music bands and some game studious have credit pirating for increasing there sales as they did not have a huge marketing budgets and it allowed a greater audience to try there products.
Also, even the hard core pirates tend to purchase more and more product as there standard of living goes up. This can have huge benefits for companies that they have pirated software from as they are already wanting the next piece of software that comes out from them and will be among the purchasers of it.
Plus being a company founded in Canada (3 hours north of me actually :)) I would be quite surprised if they let this effect any of there plans with the game as they are used to living under the Canadian radio guidelines of "pirating" and "sharing music". Which is quite legal because we pay a tariff on digital and analog media which is redistribution to the artists.

no they do not go hand and hand. Ignorance can be a side affect of arrogance (which you are clearly effected by both, by all your comments here); however it does not go hand in hand. I know a lot of arrogant people that in no way are ignorant as just because there demeanor is arrogance, does not mean there nature is. Which means that they are acting arrogant even though they are quite listening the everyone and gathering a lot of information thus not ignorant. Plus your comment doesn't do anything to counter my argument that everyone in this work is a pirate in there own way.
Comment by Andrea on January 11, 2010 at 1:03 pm
I won't download it. This game is amazing, and Bioware deserves their (our) money for it. Piracy will just lead to more and more DRM-protected systems, which inevitably cause issues to regular owners. I know there's no stopping piracy, but they at least should have had the decency to release this AFTER the official release.
Comment by Krovikan on January 11, 2010 at 1:05 pm
what? mod's are bad now too… wow if you are not good at a game like MW2 (which I am not; I am happy when I don't get last place on a XBOX Live match) then admit it do not blame modders, these are hard working people that are expanding, extending and modifying content for everyones enjoyment. And a lot of the hard working game studious end up employing these workers.
Comment by Krovikan on January 11, 2010 at 1:11 pm
To everyone that complains about pirates and claim you have not pirated, I can guarantee that you have done so. If you ever have borrowed a friends game for more the 24 hours (or lent a game) or given a game you have used. You are a pirate! I highly doubt there is anyone that at some point in there life has not violate a copyright law by accident or on purpose (oh and ignorance is not a defense, so yes accident does count). Does it ruin my game experience that someone has played it and i have not. No I will enjoy it the second it comes out and pay my five dollars, and so will a lot of the pirates.
Comment by Krovikan on January 11, 2010 at 1:36 pm
what? you don't even believe what you said you just congratulate a person that says he supports piracy then go and rip on it. That person probably has downloaded a movie pre-release thus gone against what he just said.
Comment by Sean on January 11, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Krovikan. Actually I am pretty good at the game and I do NOT blame and did not blame my losing a match on modders. Let me say again. Modders ruin the "overall experience". I lose many matches and I do win many matches! Now, I will never cheat or mod a game. My feeling is if you have to cheat then you dont belong playing it in the first place. The fact that you support xbox software modding is really unfortunate. It is illegal and anyone caught doing so should have their account suspended or revoked. Wait, I think that already happened. I dont imagine you remember the "Javelin Glitch" that IW had to deal with shortly after MW2 came out? Well they fired the programmer who worked for them who put it into the game and said that anyone caught using it in the game would have their account suspended! And this was something that was put in the game when it shipped not made by a third party! PC modding is a different issue altogether and I do support that since many companies allow it and it is a large part of PC gaming.

"Arrogance and Ignorance go hand in hand" just a little something for you Krovikan!
Comment by One on January 11, 2010 at 1:55 pm
@bercilak & jusctice pie : I'm not saying that I agree with piracy, what I meant is all of those pirates and their supporters will probably use the delay as an excuse along with other excuses like 'if you like it, buy it' or 'support the company, they deserve it'…. etc.
I'm a musician, I know how it feel selling 10$ cd while those pirates selling the cd 1$…. In my country piracy is everywhere, if a records gone gold it mean that the artist is very famous…..
Comment by Krovikan on January 11, 2010 at 2:10 pm
okay you loose to xbox/PS3 modder? is that what your saying… I find that hard to believe since XBOX banned all there accounts from xbox live, so if your system linking maybe you should stop playing with your friends. If it is PS3, I have no clue what PS3 does to modders as of late because mine sits on my coffee table as a Blue Ray player and thats it. However, those are different stories then PC modding which is what I thought you were talking about. What javelin glitch? how does that support anything in your argument? those are rhetorical questions btw as it obviously is random and does not.

violating copyrights is not just games, have you every watched a mix video with a whole bunch of scene's from a movie or TV show on it? I could think up hundreds of thousands of different ways a person could accidentally violate someones copyrights in day to day lives without realizing it.
Comment by RageGT on January 11, 2010 at 3:58 pm
Sorry Sean, but that's a poor game design. EA's Battleffield 1942 servers can opt for letting modded version or "pure only". There are some good mods for that game but I personally like pure better and the servers for that are the best. That's the only FPS I ever played without feeling sick too.
So if MW2 allows cheaters to play the same match with legit players, blame the devs not the cheaters. They could be restricted to play only in specific servers if devs wanted it. And please don't call a hack the same as a mod. People with aim hack, no-wall hack and many other hacks are a plague while mods expand the life spam of a game marvelously.
I believe Counter-Strike is nothing more than a mod for other original game, isn't it?
Comment by RageGT on January 11, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Yeah but there are people saying on socia bioware, how they will laugh when Bioware or EA ban the accounts and blacklist the cd-keys of those "pirates" who should be on trial for crime against humanity!
I can't comment on what BioWare pvt msg'd me but they are much more light spirited on the whole subject than some fanatic cyberstalker zealot who might want to explode himself with a body bomb just to kill some of those who are playing a fraking awesome piece of game that they will most likely acquire legitimately when available!
Comment by Sean on January 11, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Do you play modern warfare 2 on X360? I think there is something lost in translation. I have always seen the mods and hacks words mixed and matched depending on who is using them. I think I should clarify a little better. People use controller mods for the X360 to get advantages in MW2 and they use hacks to directly interfere with the game.
I am not sure if one can entirely blame the devs for the publics ability to mod or hack the in game experience. There are a lot of really smart people out there who do crazy things to the game with X360 hacks and mods that the devs never intended the game to be able to do. But I do see where you are coming from as far as assigning some blame to the devs. I agree with you to some extent.

You're not brazilian are you? well, I'm a musician too… very underground and unknown and proud of it but my CD sold out to the whole world thanks to the internet and prolly the whole CD being available as full version free mp3 at my website!
While I don't make my living out of it, some people actually like my music and it's a privilege that people wanted to d/l my songs. Some people have a very different concept of what a short life spam as ours means in the cosmos. And I will still record some other CD someday… having writen over 300 songs … I never did it for money and a few people being touched by the songs I wrote are reward enough for me! Well, the cool trophies I won in some music festivals don't hurt either! I am not without some human vanity after all.
Comment by RageGT on January 11, 2010 at 4:40 pm
I actually linked that paper from Harvard Economics and some person on social website said it is not valid and he could produce another saying the opposite. Of course he never did.
It is a whole different matter to be angry at those who PROFIT from frauding companies copyrights and ownership. I don't like the P word. I'm fond of Jack Sparrow! But there are actual factories with heavy machinery producing lots of different products including games CD and DVD and selling them worlwide for a cheap price, really causing financial losses to the legit owners since that money they collect should be going to such legit owners. And, surprise surprise, console games are the ones that sell the most, along with music CD's, fake Rolex and Louis Vitton purses!
I assure you that Companies and Interpol and local authorities all over the world are much more interested in going after those! And as it continues I can only think that it is because of extorsion/bribe money! Money can corrupt anything or anyone that only values that.
I am proud to say that I am a legit owner of every piece of software I use and I don't judge people who don't make a profit out of file sharing and will probably end up buying the real thing anyway.

I do not need a justification; however hearing holier then though arguments. BTW, I have XBOX Collectors edition, all downloads available except the dlc with the shirt and missing a download from the online flash game, will be buying the shirt to get the other DLC I do not have. and I have even downloaded a shirt for my avatar, plus I will be buying a second copy of the game for the PC when I pre-order my expansion today. See how an assumption because I make a rational argument about pirating you have assume that I have pirated it, which is in fact incorrect as I do not even have the PC version.

It is the exactly same thing here man! that's why I asked you if you were Brazilian. =) But I am pretty sure it is the same in many countries, perhaps in all of them really.
There is a big organized and well oiled machine behind it and they make heaps of money and most people who are ready to burn a person whom might download a file without the proper payment, I agree but with no profiteering intention either, thus causing no real financial loss to anyone, well, those holy crusaders don't seem to understand a vital difference when they call the file-sharing guy a criminal.
Some have even said on social forum that they deserve "life in prison without parole" for that.
Now, if one say that to the face of the real criminals that make a huge amount of money, they might get a bullet in their face because they are also heavily armed! That is a crucial difference, imho.
If someone blitz a file-sharing guy place, the most resistance they will meet is some poster in the wall for the movie Hackers with lovely Mrs. Brad Pitt it her teenage.
Sure, it is a lot easier to catch and hang these guys but where is the justice in that?

Some people have also said on the Social Site that RtO was going to be released yesterday. At the end of the day the Social Site is a forum filled with broad, often ill-informed, statements that should be taken with a pinch of salt. Just remember "The narrower the mind, the broader the statement."

So true!
But going over people's profiles to check if they have a piece of equipment from the leaked DLC or the Achievement seal and them trying to expose them as "world's most wanted", demaning the ban of the account and blacklist of the CD key… because "they cannot see someone doing something illegal and let it go unpunished"…
That brought me a lot of question on RL problems and events that my ironic mind wanted to ask in the forums but I gave my word to DG that I would no get involved in any kind of discussion about the leaked DLC.
Do they realize that in a matter of days now, all of them will have the same gear equipped, if they choose so, and the seal too and then all is fine and probably on the same "legal" level again?
As wrong as it may be, using the leaked DLC, it may actually work in favor of the devs since, for the most part, there will not be but good words about it and some people might be convinced to buy the DLC when released based on what they've heard about the leaked version.
Like many people do, about the regular game and released DLC , in pvt messages on YouTube when they watch my vids there. I am sure that other uploaders get the same inquires from people that haven't got the game. And I feel really glad to answer each and everyone of them.
At the same time I block lots of spam bots and delete all comments with links to warez website that they keep posting on my vids. Nothing more than the right thing to do and I don't want an "achievement seal" for that but hope you can imagine how I'd feel if someone tried to expose me on the forum after visiting my profile and seeing some actual achievement seal that shouldn't be there and then saying how dangerous of a criminal I am!

So I looked the difference between the two, it's excatly the same. So I wonder why they not sell it for 30$.
Well more 70$ will make them more rich, right
