New story details emerge also

Dragon Age Origins Blog amgarrak UPDATED: Dragon Age New DLC Named: The Golems of Amgarrak

Earlier this week, we posted some news about a new high-tier DLC package in the works by BioWare and had a brief impression of the content. Now, that DLC has a name and more details have been revealed about the new content. One thing about “The Golems of Amgarrak” hasn’t changed though - this new module is reportedly going to be tough.

UPDATE: BioWare’s Fernando Melo revealed a few more details about the DLC on the BioWare forums. Read below!

Joystiq.com released the new details after getting their hands on the package. The DLC is already being hailed as a serious challenge for experienced players even on the easiest setting, which means players will likely be using their brains more than their brawn to clear this package. Although the original announcement didn’t have any details about a story and being touted as a “combat-intensive” DLC, the new information reveals some clips of that story.

You join a dwarf Jerrik who is searching for his brother, Brogan. In your searches, you discover some items that are glowing with blue magic including Brogan himself, making them impossible to interact with. Eventually finding a magic orb, the orb releasing a power that inverts the world. You can now interact with the previously untouchable items and Brogan, who informs you that there’s some sort of evil behind the entire strange situation.

That’s all Joystiq had, except noting that battle in the DLC is the same as it is throughout the rest of Origins, so there’s nothing new to deal with. From what we know, the DLC appears to be just a very difficult new quest to undertake in very typical Origins style. What makes the new quest so hard is still a mystery to us. And, same as earlier, we don’t have a release date or price – so we’ll continue to keep our eyes and ears open for new details.

UPDATE: Fernando Melo posted a few more details in a thread over the Social Network noted that players will be able to use their warden from the campaign in the DLC. “We’ll have a lot more info on this VERY soon – but yes, you will be able to continue your Warden’s story (either from Origins or Awakening).” The thread’s started also noted that when asked, a BioWare rep at the San Diego Comic Con said the DLC will be standalone and appear in the “Other Campaigns” section, but that you will be able to import your Warden into it similar to how you import from Origins into Awakening.

Melo also clears up that coining the DLC as “combat-focused” isn’t exactly the best way to think of it. “It is not Darkspawn Chronicles. It is more in-line with what you would play in DA:O or Awakening, with voiced party member conversations, story, etc.,” he posted. “… and it is set on a new dwarven thaig. I suspect that’s where some of the “combat focused” comments may be coming from.”

And yes, Melo confirms that the DLC is going to be tough to beat, so much that they’ll award you an achievement for doing so on the toughest difficulty. “But it is purposefully hard – we even added an achievement for beating it on Nightmare,” he writes.
