UPDATED: Dragon Age New DLC Named: The Golems of Amgarrak
Jul 28
New story details emerge also
Earlier this week, we posted some news about a new high-tier DLC package in the works by BioWare and had a brief impression of the content. Now, that DLC has a name and more details have been revealed about the new content. One thing about “The Golems of Amgarrak” hasn’t changed though - this new module is reportedly going to be tough.
UPDATE: BioWare’s Fernando Melo revealed a few more details about the DLC on the BioWare forums. Read below!
Joystiq.com released the new details after getting their hands on the package. The DLC is already being hailed as a serious challenge for experienced players even on the easiest setting, which means players will likely be using their brains more than their brawn to clear this package. Although the original announcement didn’t have any details about a story and being touted as a “combat-intensive” DLC, the new information reveals some clips of that story.
You join a dwarf Jerrik who is searching for his brother, Brogan. In your searches, you discover some items that are glowing with blue magic including Brogan himself, making them impossible to interact with. Eventually finding a magic orb, the orb releasing a power that inverts the world. You can now interact with the previously untouchable items and Brogan, who informs you that there’s some sort of evil behind the entire strange situation.
That’s all Joystiq had, except noting that battle in the DLC is the same as it is throughout the rest of Origins, so there’s nothing new to deal with. From what we know, the DLC appears to be just a very difficult new quest to undertake in very typical Origins style. What makes the new quest so hard is still a mystery to us. And, same as earlier, we don’t have a release date or price – so we’ll continue to keep our eyes and ears open for new details.
UPDATE: Fernando Melo posted a few more details in a thread over the Social Network noted that players will be able to use their warden from the campaign in the DLC. “We’ll have a lot more info on this VERY soon – but yes, you will be able to continue your Warden’s story (either from Origins or Awakening).” The thread’s started also noted that when asked, a BioWare rep at the San Diego Comic Con said the DLC will be standalone and appear in the “Other Campaigns” section, but that you will be able to import your Warden into it similar to how you import from Origins into Awakening.
Melo also clears up that coining the DLC as “combat-focused” isn’t exactly the best way to think of it. “It is not Darkspawn Chronicles. It is more in-line with what you would play in DA:O or Awakening, with voiced party member conversations, story, etc.,” he posted. “… and it is set on a new dwarven thaig. I suspect that’s where some of the “combat focused” comments may be coming from.”
And yes, Melo confirms that the DLC is going to be tough to beat, so much that they’ll award you an achievement for doing so on the toughest difficulty. “But it is purposefully hard – we even added an achievement for beating it on Nightmare,” he writes.

The name at least implies some lore to do with to do with the Golems. It always seemed weird that only Shale had freedom and no one else, so hopefully we'll get a unique chance to see something special.

My own investigation lead me to believe that it's an add-on, rather than an add-in. Meaning that it'll appear in the "Other Campaigns" section, outside of Origins or Awakening.
Though, you are able to import your Origins or Awakening character — and probably create a new one from the ground up too.

i was kinda hoping the next dlc or expansion would be about morrigan and your 'vil' spawn love child (possibly) that or least getting to see some more of the land ie. antiva, orlais i dont want dragon age 2 – new character and all that, ive worked really hard to get my characters from origins to there best and want to continue on with them not sum scripted somebody in a new 'epic' tale.. why go there why not just let us keep building our own characters story with level cap raises like warcraft or summat..

shale isnt only one with freedom.. if u took shale to meet Karadin during the paragon of her kind mission then you find out a lot more of his past then and how shale was one of the loyal voulenteers to the army.. also mentions that there was others then.. so not really new news but its a good expansion point.. i just hope they end this with a cliffhanger and start doing this for each game setting up the next.. imagine finishing this expansion and then in a cut scene shows the world flying by over the mountains and then u hear the feint whimper and scream of a woman giving birth.. camera closes in and morrigan has just given birth to your/alistar/loghains child.. next expansion whatever it is at some point having another cut away during it tying to morrigan.. possibly end dlc with morrigan and child seen entering the gates of Val Royeux or even the Tavinter lands.. and so on each game setting up what is to come in the finale.. your hild with its god like blood and powers grows fast.. super fast and becomes a dark power.. morrigan being its protector and eventually leading to a climactic showdown atop of or in some epic location..
