UPDATED: Now It’s Official: Dragon Age 2 Is Coming

BioWare teases tomorrow's announcement via Twitter
Several major news sites such as IGN, Kotaku etc. are reporting that EA has officially announced Dragon Age 2 today. In a press release for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Electronic Arts also confirms the development of Dragon Age 2. But it was a Tweet from biofeed which got everyone so excited about Dragon Age 2.
The press release reads:
Currently announced projects at BioWare include the development of ongoing downloadable content for Mass Effect 2, one of the highest rated video games of all time, Dragon Age 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2009′s “RPG of the Year” Dragon Age: Origins, and the story-driven massively multiplayer online game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
BioWare’s very own Twitter account wrote earlier:
“2morrow will be a great day for BioWare fans. Just sayin’
I’m not quite sure, but I think Chris Priestly, BioWare’s Community Manager, is behind the Tweet since he returned to work yesterday after his sabattical. However, at the end of the day it’s no real big surprise that BioWare was developing Dragon Age 2. We all remember Greg Zeschuk’s quote in January about Dragon Age 2 saying “Dragon Age 2 will be super hot“.
UPDATE:
Gameinformer just revealed their cover for their upcoming August issue. Take a look. Additionally, BioWare just updated their website with some brief new information about Dragon Age 2.

Excellent!!! Now is not only to stay in Vigilance during this time of peace before the next blight but also be mindful of the time when Claudia Black is cast for the project.

I wish they would announce a Dragon Age: Awakening patch.
I did not buy further DLCs out of protest, and announcing Dragon Age 2 before patching Awakening is cynical.

And the patch for Dragon Age 1 is coming when?
I’m not too happy. We get Red’s DLC. Now the annoucement for DA2. That’s all nice and cute, but can we patch the original product first, before pumping out new content or even talking about a sequel?
That happens when you let the marketing department take over and flip off the quality control.

Patches make no money. DLC, expansions and new games do make money. Businesses typically like to make money *first* and serve customers second. Although a patch would be nice to fix some of the issues with the game, I would much rather have a new adventure than a slightly better functioning adventure I've played three/four times.
So excited. I don't often pre-order games, but I may be putting in an order in like 10 minutes when pre-orders start.

Im so happy , and sooooo disappointed , in DA 2 we wont play with the character from the first Dragon age , why ? I wana see how hes story ends. What happens between Morrigan and him , i wana know that from that char , not trough another character , :((

What does this mean exactly? So DAO is it between my Warden and Morrigan and my Warden's Child and her "plan?" What happened to the teaser in DAA of being able to chase after the dark haired sorceress who fought by my Warden's side? That should be possible in DAO2 given the storyline of rising to power, possibly over creating a new Imperium. Is BioWare telling all of us who are invested in our DAO romance options that we cannot import our human male or female character to continue interacting with Morrigan et. al.? If so, explain to me just what is so "superhot" about that?

Only as humans? Oi. That heavily limits my interest in DA2. I want my city elf.
But as for patches. Well, if they make a patch, it shows they care about the customers. If they don’t make a patch for a game that will have a few more DLCs… why would I buy the sequel? After all no patches would show that they don’t really care about customers. Then the sequel will get shafted as well.
And what point is DLC when it messes up the original game? And then no patch? Uh huh… That’s not very smart marketing in my book. Whatever happened to “the customer is king”?

I’m terribly disappointed, personally. I greatly enjoyed Dragon Age’s format over Mass Effect’s and the fact they’re moving Dragon Age to basically copy Mass Effect makes me wary.
I still enjoy the world and the fiction so I’ll still be watching with cautious optimism.
I must also be in the rare minority to hope that we never see Morgana again. Demon Baby can show up and try to eat the world, I just don’t want to have to listen to Claudia Black again.
