Dragon Age: Awakening Walkthrough

Having a problem? Stuck on a quest? Where do you find what you are looking for? Just need a little hint or nudge in the right direction? We are presenting you detailed written walkthroughs along with the video version for your viewing pleasure.
Written and Video Walkthroughs
The Assault on Vigil’s Keep – Outside
The battle for vigil’s keep begins with you arriving, Mhairi in tow. A survivor will come rushing forward with three Genlocks close behind. This is quite an easy fight, so if you forgot to remove all the DLC gear from your Origins Warden you should still be fine. The survivor will aid you in this fight, but will leave once the fight ends.
The Assault on Vigil’s Keep – Interior
The moment you step through the gate and into the keep you will find yourself in the Inner Courtyard. At first appearances this area will seem empty, but beware for as soon as you try to cross to the other side two Shrieks will attack, led by a Shriek Alpha. The portcullis ahead of you is your destination, but it needs to be opened. To the left of the gate is a Lever, unfortunately the way is blocked off and you will need to go around.
The Wending Woods Stone Puzzle
The moment you step through the gate and into the keep you will find yourself in the Inner Courtyard. What happens when you first investigate the circle will depend upon how much of the wending wood you have explored and by which path you approached the puzzle. If you have travelled around the back path past the statues then you might have the following message appear when you try to interact with the puzzle: “A stone appears to be missing”.

How longs a piece of string?
It'll be ready when me & CaK can get it ready, we can't give a schedule just yet.
Comment by Adam on March 14, 2010 at 5:13 am
How long are we talking? Is it going to be long before the walkthroughs are released?
Comment by Adam on March 15, 2010 at 3:11 am
Oh alright, Thanks. Its just really frustrating sometimes at this point in the game for me as I am having difficulty defeating a boss and looking for tips and such, that and a list of which gifts belong to whom in the game. No rush I guess…Just sucks that they don't release the strategy guide with the game when it comes out.

Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 4:59 am
No clue if you got this far but once you light the pedastal and defeat all 3 sets of the guardians fallow the path hard left while facing the mansion then fallow the girl into the crpyt, defeat her, go back about 300 feet and then go left into the other room, defeat the skeletons and then keep going. I will post more of my progress.

Need a screenshot of the correct way to do the stone puzzle in the woods!!

I am aswell.
If anyone could post a reply, tip, or any help that would be superb!:)
Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 5:28 am
To conclude what i said above…
keep going further in and defeat the enemies just as previously, eventually you will surface and be in a town with a character by the name of "JUSTICE" either side or go against him it doesnt matter. You will then be sent back into the mortal word after a fight against the "UGLY TALKING DARKSPAWN".
And thats a wrap:)
Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 5:32 am
Try to light them all, eventually you will find one which holds its light and then light the one arcoss from it fallowed by the one to its right if you are facing it and then its opposite. *the key to this one is, light the opposing rock after
Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 5:36 am
They are in the chest to the right (if you are coming away from where you landed once back in the mortal world) by the pedastal
Comment by Kigen on March 17, 2010 at 6:06 am
same here except I can go in to the crypt but I guess the level is glitch cus I cannot walk down the hallway.
Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 6:18 am
Decrease the difficulty of the game in the options menu in order to defeat the boss without problems. In most cases it works, if not i sudject you reload and refit your party with the appropriate gear and items.
In regards to the gifts…
there are clues on each gift, i suggest you hold on to them until they apply to the appropriate character. If not post them here and i am sure someone will be able to help you out.
Good luck!
Comment by ch3wy on March 17, 2010 at 11:08 am
i found the gauntlets in there but not the boots when i was looking last night, theres another area that looks like it has a chest guarded by three desire demons that i cant get to though. its blocked by a tear in the veil

*SPOILER ALERT*
Can the girl Mihari survive the ritual? If so how?
Comment by Terepotis on March 17, 2010 at 2:53 pm
Has anyone been able to figure out any of the new runscript commands? I am particularly interested in the gold(coin) one. It doesn't seem to be the same as origins although the add experience one is still the same.
Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 5:18 pm
You must have not defeated them when you were in the fade. I dont know a solution to that. Unless you wanted to reload your game. I gave oghren the full suit, its pretty awesome.
Comment by Chris-G.W fo life on March 17, 2010 at 5:20 pm
She didnt for mine.
You may have to wait a while for an answer to that.
I doubt it though.
Comment by ch3wy on March 17, 2010 at 6:34 pm
hah thats exactly what i feared, and i dont have an old save i can revert to for that. i remembered the fade from origins and thought to myself i had better just do the quest as fast as i can, a foolish mistake. thanks for the help though
Comment by minto took on March 17, 2010 at 6:37 pm
How do you get to the Black Marsh? I've searched all over Kristoff's room and nothing triggers it.
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 17, 2010 at 7:54 pm
What a bummer… gl with everything else. I cant say i enjoy the fade either but it didnt matter seeing how long it took me to firgure it out (very long) haha.
No problem.
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 17, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Click the board which is straight ahead if you enter. If that doesnt help you out talk with everyone else in the tavern and complete the quests inside the village.
Then return to the world map it should be there; middle right.
Comment by Garry on March 17, 2010 at 7:57 pm
Could you elaborate?
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 17, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Here are the steps…
***WHEN I SAY LIGHT I MEAN CLICK/HIT/SMASK/ w.e you want to call it***
1. find the stone which holds its light (creates the strip of fire toward the pedastal)
2. light the one across from it
3. try and light on beside it (if it lights proceed if not start at step 1 and try the one on the other side)
4. Once you have 3 of them lit light the one across from that one (NOW 4 should be lit)
5. Now light either of the ones left fallowed by its opposite (if it doesnt work restart from step one and then try the other one)
Once you have trouble shooted through that you are done. Hope that clear enough.
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 17, 2010 at 9:08 pm
I may have the wrong location …. i was thinking the Marshlands.
Are you talking about Wending Woods?
Comment by Someone on March 17, 2010 at 9:16 pm
I don't know this for sure but wouldn't it make sense that Mihari would live if you let Anders be taken away to the circle? I have no idea because I haven't tried it myself but that's just my theory
Comment by Nadera on March 17, 2010 at 9:21 pm
Possible spoiler alert but I sort of doubt it
If anyone were to answer this I would be super happy…ok, so I'm in the Wending Woods and I see the entrance to the Silverite Mine not knowing where to go or what I was doing I decided to go in. I went through the whole thing with that (I don't want to say in case others haven't been there yet but if you have I think you know what I'm talking about) afterwards Velanna decides to come with me to find her sister. She wants to go to the Mine but when I go it doesn't let me go down the stairs…she's locked into my group meaning I can't not have her with me, is this a possible glitch because I don't want to get too far only to realize I wasted my time
Comment by Koma on March 17, 2010 at 10:57 pm
Just move on, it'll realize you've done it.
Comment by Jacob on March 17, 2010 at 11:19 pm
How do I beat the swamp baroness lady? I can take off half of her health fairly early in the fight, but then she utterly destroys my party fairly quickly after that? are there any guides or something online?
Comment by rogue755 on March 17, 2010 at 11:32 pm
appreciate the replies! Yes the puzzle in wending woods you get a hint from the dead scholar on the ground how to do it but still have been unsuccessful in lighting all the stones
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 18, 2010 at 12:00 am
Possibly… i think the route which you were supposed to take was as fallows…
go past the door to the mines and defeat all the monsters (ALL OF THEM) and find the dying soldier once you have killed all the monsters go back and you should run into valenna then get her to join you or kill her, your choice. Then proceed to the mines where you will meet the ugly mofo with one eye(architect) then proceed through the mines…
voila should work.
You may have glitched in there some how… or you may be on the right track. If you did all of the above and the problem persists leave the mine and then re-enter.
Good luck!

Comment by Steve on March 18, 2010 at 6:59 am
just save your game before handing the gift over, you'll find out if it's something they like when they get it and if not… reload. If you feel that's cheating, it's no different from reading which gift to give them on a guide.
Comment by kelly on March 18, 2010 at 7:28 am
Did you try and enter the mines? If not, there is an area all the way in the back of the woods with an infected templar, he starts you on the next chain of events where the elf eventually joins you.
Comment by Mark on March 18, 2010 at 8:22 am
Is there any way to unlock that chest in the Architect's room (just before you fight the bosses at the end) in the Silverite Mine? Did I miss a key somewhere? If so, is there anything good in there? Should I bother going back to try and find the key?
Comment by blue on March 18, 2010 at 10:35 am

same problem here… any luck? And the severite mine door says that it´s imposible to open too..
Comment by Swylen on March 18, 2010 at 3:54 pm
It's definitely a bug. I had already talked to the infected guy but didn't go straight to the ledge with the two ents. I looped around lower and went around to do the puzzle and two brothers quests. Then the 2nd meeting with Veleena would not engage and the mine was still locked. I had to start the woods section over again and go straight for the camp after talking to the infected guy. I went by the ents and it happened the second play through.

Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 18, 2010 at 6:35 pm
Its in the Amarathine Commons by the guard house door in a chest. If its not their open your inventory and select the quest item tab it should be there. Enjoy!
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 18, 2010 at 6:37 pm
It is best that you have one mage or more.
Drag and drop all paralysis/stun/freeze or any other spells which limit the enemies movement to your hot bar and let her have it while your other 3 are using mass damage attacks.
Good luck!
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 18, 2010 at 6:40 pm
Someone else had posted a similiar problem prior.
Id suggest you reload to a previous game and complete everything else while you wait for a possible patch or changing your course of action may just fix the problem.
Good luck.

I did the Wending Woods over again and zerged for that and only that questline and it worked. Go straight from the infected man to the cliff north of the structure with the two ents and the elf showed up to attack me. Then the camp cut scene worked correctly. I have the mine open and her in my party. Now I just have to do the puzzle, brothers and seeds quests when i get back out of the mine.
Comment by Swylen on March 18, 2010 at 7:32 pm
There's some fellas doing a video walkthrough on youtube at about the same slowish pace i'm leveling so they have been helpful to me in some cases.

Can you enter the silverite mines once you leave? If so how?
I cant seem to go back and need items from there.
Comment by Maggor on March 18, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Where exactly can you find this infected man? Or are you refering to the slain elf in at the camp in the middle of the map?
Because I searched the entire map and just cannot find this man
Comment by Swylen on March 18, 2010 at 9:22 pm
He's under a Lean To slightly NE of the partial structure by the mine entrance. I think it shows up as Lean To on the map. Make that 'Trading Trouble' quest active in your log and it should put an arrow over his head as he is the next piece in the quest chain. He's been infected by the darkspawn and wants you to kill him. But you get to grill him about the elf killings first.
Comment by Maggor on March 18, 2010 at 11:14 pm
Oh that guy. I got teleported there twice now as soon as I killed some bandits at the entrance ( a bug I belive). Thougt there was a second guy that was also infected or something :P
Comment by Dave on March 18, 2010 at 10:20 pm
errr kinda stuck here atm, im in the wending woods and i think the quest chain is broken.
I saw the small video where you first meet Vellana when the bandit guy is running away,(before that i noticed that she was on the little area jsut of the hill to the dalish camp) and i think ur sposed to chase here there but she aint there now and i cant find her anywhere else T_T any1 know how to fix or am i royally boned?

You have to do quest to help smugglers and in the and of the quest you will get a key, but there is nothig special in guardhouse.
Comment by Swylen on March 19, 2010 at 2:17 pm
There's 3 meetings with her. She joins you on the third one. Sounds like you got to number one and saw number 2. I had similar issues and had to start the woods over from an earlier save. Do that quest first. After the first meeting go to that ledge she was standing right away then go to the Dalish camp when she flees.

the magical barrier is removed with the experiment levers when you first start the level. the levers cause the fog to lift and then you can get into the lower part of the room.
As far as the key to open the chest, i am still trying to figure that out. I recovered everyone's armor except my own. Where is it?
Comment by Jason on March 19, 2010 at 5:54 pm
You have to have the female elf (Velanna) join your party, so when you get locked in the cell Velanna's sister will give you the key to the architects lab.

The final two members in your party without clothes are found in the same room, i was confuzed and almost forgot about one members. Go back to that room and search it perhaps you will find it. If you already did i suggest you reload the game and just do the mines solo or with two characters instead.

"Key to the Crypt". What is it for? It says it is to access the Vigil's Keep Crypt, but you access that with the 4 named keys. Is there another crypt I have not seen?
Comment by Chris_GreyW on March 19, 2010 at 9:01 pm
That is the key to "the cyrpt" (where you have to use the 4 keys), its the key to that room. I dont think there is another one, at least i havent come across any.

Comment by Swylen on March 19, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Silverite Mine. At some point you come to a T that goes left and right. Left is the dragon keeper and a few dragons and the egg. Right is the way to move onto the next section. So I guess it could be easy to skip the egg/dragon stuff.

I am not sure why so many seem to have a hard time finding their own character's gear. This is my second time through Awakening and I haven't have trouble recovering mine. I looted it off one of the test subjects, experiments or whatever you'd like to call the altered creatures, same as where I got my parties stolen belongings. Just make sure you loot /every/ corpse. Sometimes it takes a minute or two for them to be lootable.
Comment by Laura on March 20, 2010 at 12:25 am
I recruited Velanna and went to go into the Silverite Mine for the second time to get her sister, but when I get to the little room at the bottom of the spiral staircase, it won't let me go into the rest of the mine, I'm just stuck in that room. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is there a way you can fix it, or get around it?

I went through 4 times and never got my gear from a character. When I tried packing my gear beforehand I awoke to 0 items in inventory. No potions, nothing. I realized it was most likely a bugged item. If it was on me it wouldn't spawn the experimental me. If it was in the pack, then it nuked the pack. I tested this by putting all my gear in Vigils keep and went back in shop gear. Worked as intended. Was most likely the helm of honneleth that carried over for me.

I am disappointed that my dragon armor and knight commander armor from the official add-ons won't show up in the expansion. I paid for them after all. Cailin's armor does, why not the others? The expansion seems way too short and buggy for the money. I do like some of the new armor, but I was expecting a lot more from this expansion.

I read somewhere you have to go into the program files and change it.
go into the keybindings.ini file located in “My DocumentsBioWareDragon AgeSettings”. Find the line “OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X” (GRAVE is default). Finally, change X to any button that is not already used in the game. Save the file, and start the game with the shortcut you created on your desktop (daorigins.exe – shortcut)

Not an option for me. I went over both of them and that entire area pixel by pixel. Another in a long list of bugs I guess. Is there anything I need questwise from that area?
Comment by Beverly Padilla on March 20, 2010 at 5:12 am
When you go into the lower tunnels under vigils keep you will come acrossed them.

Comment by Terepotis on March 20, 2010 at 8:32 am
I am having the same issue, I have opened the magic barrier door and looted the chest. I continued thru the tunnels, ran into Velanna's mob first, then Nathaniel's, and finally Ander's (I did not see 2 Experimental Subjects in the 3rd encounter area with the silverite deposit.) Note: I used the ballista to kill the mobs by the statue instead of just beating them up.
Comment by Tiger's Heart on March 20, 2010 at 9:21 am
Yes – look for a stone that shoots flame towards the centre, then one opposite, work your way back and forth until all have fire going inwards. Start again if you make an error – the reward is a belt IIRC.
Comment by Tiger's Heart on March 20, 2010 at 9:27 am
Can't have been the helm alone – as I was wearing mine and had no issues with this part of the quest
Comment by Tiger's Heart on March 20, 2010 at 9:34 am
If valenna is in your party her sister will give you the key when you wake if – if you don't get it then I don't know if you can open the chest.

Comment by eugenica on March 20, 2010 at 9:28 pm
It's very easy. You just clic on one of the runes that on the floor (green for example) so it lights up, then you need to find the matching rune on the wall (also green) and click on the floor one, and previous rune will appear there. Now you need to match that way other runes.
Comment by faith on March 20, 2010 at 9:29 pm
ok…so…i'm in the blackmarsh village (fade version)…and…i'm sorta stuck…i did the runes thing-y…killed all the monsters/demons…and the crypt thing-y also…but…nothing…what do i do??
Comment by eugenica on March 20, 2010 at 9:31 pm
buy, find or create runes, then ask elven sorceress ambassador at vigil's keep to enchant your belongings and put whatever rune you like into slots on weapon and armor.
Comment by Terepotis on March 20, 2010 at 9:51 pm
It is probably a bug. I initially imported my character from origins. I have ensured that all my gear equipped and in my inventory is from Awakenings. I have now run thru the mines about 10 times to see the variations and when I run with 4 characters in grp we wake up in the cell and still have all of our gear in the inventory but none of the gear we had equipped ( I assume this is the bug. ) When I have used 3 characters however, we wake to having nothing at all in our inventory or equipped except a piece of clothing ( I assume this is what was intented ) Note: Don't forget to make the 3rd toon a rogue for lockpicks of chests. When using 4 in grp, the chest next to the vendor, Armaas, is always empty and there has only been 3 Experimental Subjects. When using 3 chars in grp, the 3rd Experimental Subject had my gear and the chest next to Armaas has all of my previous inventory like potions and such. Hope this helps someone. I hate bugs and the chaos they cause.
Comment by Alyssa Grotton on March 20, 2010 at 9:54 pm
If you did the crypt, the exit should take you into the town. If not, make sure you're not going out through the entrance (the end near the docks). Just go to the middle of town (where all the people are gathered) and the cutscene should start.

Comment by Ash on March 20, 2010 at 10:51 pm
Lol. I got stuck in the fade forever because I couldn't find the way into the town. I'm not sure if this is what you meant by stuck…. If it is then you can find the exit in one of the rooms in the crypt. As I recall, it's hidden in the far right corner of the room.

Comment by Mudd on March 21, 2010 at 3:12 pm
I had this problem as well. It has something to do with an extra mod. I removed all the mods I had (including the DLC) and then I could get past doing a forced load of the auto save as you enter the crypt. I'm trying to figure out now which mod was the problem.
Comment by eaf on March 21, 2010 at 2:43 pm
After you finish the Keep quests, the in house merchant will start to sell it.
Comment by Mudd on March 21, 2010 at 3:24 pm
I tracked it down in my case the advanced tactics mod I had installed was blocking the path. To fix this remove it from the addins folder. In my case its DocumentsBioWareDragon AgeAddIns. Delete the folder and do a force load of your save. You might be able to put it back after you move past there. I haven't tried yet.

Comment by @laurainnis on March 21, 2010 at 6:45 pm
I had a bit of a challenge with the inscriptions too, and there were two monuments just to the right of the mine (or left, if you're facing the entrance), if you come off the path and head left and down a bit of a gully. One is towards the hill the entrance to the mine is on and the other is in a fairly straight line directly 180 degrees behind you. The silks, again, some are on the scavengers, but all are pretty much along the paths.

Comment by Guest on March 22, 2010 at 7:53 pm
I took control of my mage and kept my party healed and would freeze her whenever possible allowing the others to whack away at her. I also focused on her rather than her tentacles…which die when she does. She went down quick all three times. Yes, I've been through three times so far.
Comment by Guest on March 22, 2010 at 7:55 pm
He's not much help, but it does make a difference in the ending. If you kill him..darkspawn are still a threat. If you let him live…the Grey Wardens are appalled, but the deep roads grow quiet. The elf hates you forever if you kill him…and likes you if you don't. Whoopie…right?
Comment by Paul on March 22, 2010 at 9:41 pm
I played through twice on Nightmare. 1st time I ran my whole group right up to her and basically meleed her to death ignoring the tentacles and killed her in about 45 seconds. 2nd time I hung back so I could see what all the fuss was about and killed the tentacles and children. That took much longer. Like 5 minutes.

Comment by @laurainnis on March 23, 2010 at 1:16 am
Actually, if you make Alistair King in Origins, and either marry or convince him to continue your relationship after he becomes King, he shows up to greet you at the Keep, but he doesn't stay long. Also, neither Leliana nor Zevran, Shale or Sten show up at all, though I think Shale does get mentioned depending on how Origins ended with Wynne. Lastly and most sadly, you cannot woo anyone in Awakening. There are no romance options, but there are flirty comments and slightly fewer actual conversations with your party than in Origins.

I killed the skeletons that came alive and that`s it… what of the statue ?
no option to interact, I click on the tab, it says warrior statue and usually when something
is on the map, It`s important enough so I am guessing It should have something to do with the warrior statue …anybody ?

If you meet Wynne in Ameranthine and pick up her quest to find Ines in the Wandering Wood, do so. Ines wants northern prickleberry, which you can find behind a bush near the Silverite Mines. Hand the seeds to Ines, and she gives you a few potions (one of which is for Master Lyrium).

Comment by Guest on March 23, 2010 at 11:50 pm
Place the stone you picked up into the open slot then click on each successive fire spot until you can create a single, continuous, loop of fire. You must link each of the stones in the puzzle, but you can't cross over a line of fire or link twice.
The easiest way I found is to loop the outside ring, then the middle ring then the inner ring.
Comment by Guest on March 23, 2010 at 11:54 pm
Click on the stones until you find the one which produces a line of fire. Once you find that stone, click on the one opposite it (it will also produce a line of fire). Next click on the one to the left of the second stone (it will form a wedge of fire). Now click on the oen opposite from this one (to form a second wedge). Once you have both wedges formed clik on the other two stones to complete the puzzle – WATCH OUT, you just called up several demons – luckily they come out one at a time so kill them quickly.
Comment by Guest on March 23, 2010 at 11:54 pm

I couldn't interact with it either. It may be just a storyline interaction with your henchmen. There are several aeras in the game that initiate conversation. I couldn't click the one outside the chantry either and I know that one is a storyline interaction.
Comment by Inverted Nightmare on March 24, 2010 at 4:15 am
This is a reply for the guys who need tips in the Wending Woods firestones. Its easy but if you already started lighting up the stones you need to undo everything, just keep on going back until all the firestones are unlit.
Just start with the outer stones first the work with the inner stones. there is a part that wont connect like the others but the whole point is to work from the outside till you reach the inner part of the stone thats it, be prepared coz a huge pedobear will appear and molest your players. just joking…

to complete this puzzle you have to take the first stone and go to the inner circle and go around til the last of that circle. then go 1 ring up and do it counter clockwise til the last stone then go go the outer row and and follow this clockwise til the last sone and a chest wil appear

or use anders for runecrafting, if you auto level the other characters (which I tend to do when I use my AW/BM/SH) Anders will have runecrafting.
Comment by Jakob Connor Lockhart on March 24, 2010 at 7:48 pm
It would help to know what build you are using. Activating the tevinter towers before going to face the mother can give great benefits when you get surrounded by children/tentacles. these towers have a wide AoE around the caster, so if you want to hit the mother with one, get close enough for her to be in the AoE. the tentacles are your first priority, if you get rid of them first, it will make handling the Mother real easy. If you want her to stop knocking back your tank for a bit, use the tower of trauma it is able to paralyze her briefly to get severe damage in. if you have architechts inferno, be careful using it cause it can hurt you and your party even on normal and casual. stick with ranged attacks, heal as nessicary, and you should do fine.
Comment by Swylen on March 24, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Did you find the one hidden in the trees up the path behind the old ruins at the base of the winding path? (Turn left at the intersection with the elf camp to your back.)
Comment by Chris on March 25, 2010 at 8:42 pm
You will need to buy the novice runes, etching liquid, and blank runestones, then use someone who has a level 3 or 4 rune making skill to use the novice runes to make journeyman runes, journeyman runes to make elite runes, elite runes to make master runes, and then master rune to make the grandmaster rune. In order to be able to make each kind of run you will need to buy the paper "etching" that the different vendors may sell or that you can find in treasure troves in various
places.

Looking at the map, the last and very hidden statue is between the "Corpse Pile" and the "Silverite Mine". Stay against the wall all the way at the top of the map and follow it from the "Corpse Pile" and you will go behind some trees on a very tight path (below the "Silverite Mine" and it is there with some other stuff. I'm sure you have found it by now though but for anyone else who is looking for it… there it is.

I ended up going from the outer and following the outside until they were all lit but with a gap between 2 of them (no fire between it) and work my way in. All were lit and still nothing happened so I started looking at other stones immediately outside of the inner circle and one lit up "stone", I clicked and then the chest came falling down in the middle… inside is an amulet called Illumination that +3 to all attributes and +10 mental resistance
Comment by Anon on March 26, 2010 at 12:37 am
Actually there is one special thing in the guardhouse. After you've killed the Lieutenant theres a key on his body which opens a cell (the cells are cages found at the back of the guardhouse roof area.) Inside one of the cages is an elf. Release him and he is very grateful for being saved, announces that he is a skilled archer and then instantly goes off to defend Vigil keep. I'm not sure how good he is exactly (I haven't got that far yet) but I'm guessing he must be quite good, probably a "yellow named character" I'd bet.

If you talk to the warrior statue he tells you of him and his brother being turned into statues by a powerfull tevinter mage. He wants vengeance. Speak to the other statue and he tells you to calm his brother down so they can both have peace. Calm his brother down and they move onto the afterlife. You will encounter the bad guy when you mess with the bones of the tevinter mage.

They tend to be higher up so you have to keep going around the entire area and make sure you follow all of the upwards trails… some are behind tents, others near trees, one was in a temple looking sit, and the others were on top of hills… when you first enter there are a couple right in that area…

You must add to the skill Runecrafting and whoever has the ability can craft them as the Guest said above. You need to purchase the crafting tracings and a bunch of other materials… tracing agent and blank runes and then you need to buy the proper novice runes and… on to crafting runes.

It's bugged and happens on more than 1 item but definately based on what you are wearing. I went through this 5 times with nothing in the end and the 5th I put on stock gear. You'll know if it is bugged when you start in cell, if you have 0 items in inventory – you are good and will get all back at the end. If you see items in inventory, you are bugged and will not get the char items back.
Save before you start, don stock gear if you need to.

Comment by Carley Jean on March 30, 2010 at 4:19 am
I'm towards the beginning of the game, in Amaranthine, and I think I've done something wrong. After speaking to Colin and accepting the quest, "Law and Order," he is now saying, "I have nothing to say to you," and not allowing me to turn in the quest. Also, all the guards are saying Grey Wardens are "criminals." lol. What did I do?

Helping them is good, to a degree. I only did the first 3 or 4 quests for them, avoid doing the scarecrow and knife one, and stealing the Sermons of Justinia II, because i lost approval from my party.
**spoiler**
At the end of the game, they will be moved by you're generosity to set up their own charity for real orphans.

It's easy, just find the first one, the 2nd is across from that, the 3rd to the right, then across again. That leaves two, including the one that has the 5th clue for the other quest, which you touch next, which only leaves the one by the entrance to the circle.
The stones when lit in proper order light up a ground rune.

Awakenings was WAY too easy in my opinion, not to mention less ‘playtime’ for the dollar via the Xbox Live marketplace download cost than ‘Origins’… way to reward your loyal customers BioWare! I took a warrior through it and I didn’t die more than once or twice the whole game. Then I took a mage through and didn’t even use a ‘health poultice’ on myself more than once or twice.
Not to say I didn’t enjoy the time I did spend to some extent building a ‘super team’ of characters that just slaughtered everything in their path, but there could have been so much more.

Thanks! The quest says she's in "her" house in Amaranthine, and I've looked all over. Entered the Chantry, but didn't look for her in the back, partly because there was no green arrow/exclamation points to show a quest link/hookup.
What about the empty coast site? What's up with that? It shows some sort of structure up above, but I can't get to it. The open area only had some chests and a few cheesy monsters…what a waste, there must be more to it.

DON'T do Wending Wood last, or you won't be able to have Velonna(?) the elf lady who sabotaged the trade caravans, try the joining ritual. It won't give me the option, even though she's in my party. The nobles are there and it takes me straight to Amar. to help out on the invasion.

It's way too short, not near enough quests/locales for $40.
But at least with the manual of focus one can change one's own stats all of the time, which allows for more replay fun.

I've seen some that are very close, like Oblivion GOTY. I bought it over a year ago, and I still haven't gotten all of the way through it, but I haven't been playing it straight through, either. Did Darksiders, DA Origins, MUA 2 (which was a huge ripoff), and I've got Fallout 3 GOTY in the wings waiting.

Be aware that there are two possible sub-endings, some of which is based on decisions you made throughout the game in regards to the Keep.
TBH, I felt awkward playing one way, but it got me into some cool battles at location 2.

The Knife is in the kitchen at the Tavern and the Scarecrow is in the field just outside the main gate of the city. Melisse's house is around the Tavern (I think) The ground in front of her house will glow when you have all the items.
Oh, the flowers are in the chantrey. Just to let you know.

NO, Mhari does not survive the Joining ritual. Her purpose seems to be to act as a tank and allow a Warden of any class and race combination to properly survive the early combats, and to impress upon the player the seriousness of the Joining ritual.

Dude I know what you mean I beat the game in less than SIX! Hours And the ending let me down so much I cant even bring myself to play Origins again (Mainly because I belive Alistar and the one he marries should have a kid before she uh goes away >.>) But all in all im just heart broken SO The sequal to the game better be WAY AWSOME and make up for this expansion which is good…. but just a let down I do like the new levels and new jobs and skills and how you can put runes on your armor and what not but still I would of loved to have seen Zevran or Leliana or Even find shale randomly somewhere even sten would be acceptable. But yeah The sequale better be amazing.

I don't know if it's as destroyed as if you didn't pay any money, I'm going to replay and find out. At the end, when they talk about the Keep being 'destroyed', I think it refers to the original attack AND the final attack, whcih must do some damage, but I think the Keep itself is fine overall.
Just a guess, I'll let you know.

Comment by Guest on April 29, 2010 at 2:51 am
I had the keep stand (tho I still couldn't go back to it after the battle of Amaranthine). I also had all of the upgrades. It may have helped that I only took 2 companions with me to the final battle, leaving Ogrhen, Valenna, Anders and Justice to defend the keep. The post-text said Anders was creditted a hero of the battle – destroying hundreds of spawn with his magic. It also said Oghren was a hero, besting two ogres at once. It said the other two fought valiantly, but didn't mention any specific triumphs. It's probably also worth ensuring you've finished the quest with the wraith that inhabits the bodies of dead in the keep basement.

I've been experiencing what seems to be a glitch in the mission "The Siege of Vigil's Keep".
Basically, after the Seneschal dies, the medic flees and a small wave of darkspawn attacks me. After this, the game is brought to a stalemate, as nothing proceeds. This is after the cutscene where the disciple (The Herald) orders the armored ogre to attack, however, nothing comes and the keep is empty everywhere, and I get no further quest prompt.
The last quest prompt I see is:
"When the fighting resumed the medic retreated from the battlefield."
Apparently the next one is:
Destroy the disciples trying to enter the keep
"Disciples have been sighted at the keeps main entrance. Stop them!"
but it doesnt happen – I canvas the entire keep and no enemies.
Please help me – Thanks!!!

what I did was as soon as the cineamatic was finished , I ran all of them to the back and worked my way up to the mother , lots of darkspawn come up from the ground and its very easy to get overwhelmed, by going to the back and working your way up to her you take on a few at a time. Finally when I got to the mother I took control of my healer. Doesn't take long to kill her then. Also had them taking stamina pots in tactics at 25%. Had healer do mass heal and regeneration .

Make sure to set up the trevinter towers, they're at the bottom of the spiral stairs, use the crystals to activate them. They come in handy. Also make sure whom ever you have healing doesn't die. I used Anders since Ser-pounce-alot revives felled allies. Have your main character hitting the brood mother, another dealing with the childers and the third taking care of the tenticles. How I have beat her three times.

If you go to where the Dalish Camp is, and you go down to where the tunnel entrance is (or the big door) and go to your right, there should be a Darkspawn camp near by. When you get to the camp, go straight throught it and you should find the two talking statues. Hope this helps.

Hey Joe, You actually pick one up on your journey through the Silverite mine in the Wending woods but, for some reason I could not find it in my inventory when I got back to Wade. Hopefully you can figure that part out. I am still working on it. Also There is a dragon egg in the Vigel Keep. I can't remember if it was there before. If it was not then it just may be you have to go back to get another as there were several but, you are only allowed to pick up one. I'll lyk if I find out anything more.

Comment by Bobby L on September 11, 2010 at 10:50 pm
Well, I've done it on 3 different characters and it has always been trial and error. You need patience to really do it. I don't remember the exact path. Just keep in mind that you need to click every single one of the nodes without back-tracking. It's like one of those drawing puzzles where you're supposed to make a shape without back tracking or crossing any lines. It's not as difficult as it looks. You'll get it if you're patient.
Comment by Bobby L on September 11, 2010 at 10:56 pm
yeah it'll be under "plot items," and the exact location is in the part of the mine with the dragon tamer. The same area as the elite darkspawn with the leg-crusher maul that you need to kill for the side-quest.
Comment by Bobby on September 11, 2010 at 10:58 pm
If you've already done the silverite mine and escaped, there is no way to get back in. If you haven't done it, then I don't know what to tell you. You would have to either load a previous save or try going in and stick around at the circle at the bottom of the stairs until you trigger a cutscene.
Comment by Simon 'Crowangel' Lewis on September 11, 2010 at 11:19 pm
Its easy.. Since you have access to a pc i suggest you look up the solution on Youtube for a better description as it shows you.. basically you start with the empty stone.. click it.. move to the one on the outer rim, click it.. then work ANTI-CLOCKWISE around the OUTER circle.. then when you near the end of the circle. move to the inner track.. and then go CLOCKWISE clicking the next one on each time to advance the flame.. then when you reach the end click the next INNER track and once again go ANTI-CLOCKWISE repeat until you have all layers lit and are back near where you started from and once more click the stone that was originally empty.. and hey presto a chest will appear in the middle of the puzzle.
Here is the Youtube link.. it really is so easy and you will kick yourself when u know how. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDegFPhba5Q
Comment by Simon 'Crowangel' Lewis on September 11, 2010 at 11:22 pm
You cant.. its bugged and they show no signs of fixing it..
its supposed to be buyable from the vendor indoe the keep throne room (the salesman not the elf who sells the rest of the runes) and they supposed to become available AFTER you complete all the upgrades for the keep.. but they dont.
also you will find some of the masterpiece and paragon runes such as Cold Iron will for some god forasken reason will become Armor runes instead of Wepon runes.. and there effect is negated.. dont use them as they have no effect of you aply to armor.
Comment by Simon 'Crowangel' Lewis on September 11, 2010 at 11:25 pm
a hard to spot one is where you find Justice.. it is in the remains of a broken down house (if you can call it that from whats left) open the raidal menu and look around everywhere you go and you will see them (or least the writing for them) They are in the real world locations NONE of them appear in the fade and once you have them all install in the dragons head to make the cutscene introducing the Queen of the BLackmarsh (big electrified dragon) and thus now you follow her to do battle.
The Bone fragment needed for creating Vigilance sword (best you can get) is also at the top of this where you battle the queen.
Comment by Simon 'Crowangel' Lewis on September 11, 2010 at 11:29 pm
you need he bone from blackmarsh 1st or nothing will happen.. Once you have the bone take it to Wade and the quest 'Worked to the Bone' Will start.. he will give you a recipe list including a diamond, 1xGreater Wamth Balm, The dragon bone, dragon egg bring all items to wade and he will initiate the . How you want your sword to be dialogue.. for details on what each line of dialogue effects what stats your sword has check or google that question or better yet google Vigilance sword, but 1st option he will give you is do you want a two handed or a longsword..
Comment by Simon 'Crowangel' Lewis on September 11, 2010 at 11:30 pm
You need to get the quest from vigils keep 1st that sends you to Amaranthine to talk to Mervis and then he will tell you about the trade caravans that have been attacked.. thus opening the way to wending woods..
Comment by Simon 'Crowangel' Lewis on September 11, 2010 at 11:33 pm
Doing the abve we should warn you tho will give you negative effect with the guards of amaranthine and will disable the quest that the Amaranthine sargent will give you to deal with the smugglers. so depends what you wanna be.. good = help the sargent (but never be able to access that secret door and tower) bad = help smugglers and gain access to tower and recruit a possible archer to help defend the keep. *archer is in the prison cages at the back of the upper level in the secret doorway tower
Comment by maxhead on September 12, 2010 at 1:00 pm
i agree dude!! I died sooo often in origins it was a real challenge.. i cant believe how easy every single battle has been in awakenings. I go into each boss fight going "oh oh this is gonna be the hard one!" but still end up taking him/it down first time most of the time, and never more than 2 attempts. Having said that I do love teh new locations and puzzles in this one.. well designed and beautiful.. just poor difficulty balance imo.

YOu are right. This was an easy game. There are a couple of glitches I ran into one put me in the guard tower where there is an elf in the cage. I think this has to do with the elf but I haven't checked it out yet. Justice kept saying he needed to see the world with different eyes, but I couldnot find out how this would be possible even though Nathaniel offered. This could have been better. Alistar could have been in this, if you had played and chosen to accept the offer for Logaine to become a warden.

I also did not get my main character's equipment back. The strategy guide said that there would be two experimental creatures you would have to fight together right before you enter the chamber with the merchant, and that one of them would have your character's stuff. There was only one and it had another pary member's stuff. The chest next to the merchant was empty. I tried stripping my character before entering the mine, but then all the other stuff in the backpack (like your health potions) goes missing if you do that. Very vexing.
Comment by R.Humphrey on January 16, 2011 at 12:23 am

Enter the Chantry and speak with Alma. She
sends you to find her missing husband, with the first stop
the Crown and Lion Inn. Search the inn for the tattered note, which leads you to the city battlements . The note
fragment on the battlements leads you to a house on the
outskirts of the city .Alma’s
husband, Karrem, has hung himself, unable to cope with the
burdens of family life. Search the corpse for a final note, and
return to Alma to give her the sad news.

Where is the Iron deposit in Kal'Hirol? I'm going for the "Enduring Vigil" quest and that's my last one.
