It’s no secret that mages are second-class citizens in Ferelden. Those born with magic in their veins have two choices: accept the place deemed for them by the Chantry and submit to a life at the Circle Tower, or become an apostate and live a life forever on the run. For generations, the Chantry has controlled the fate of mages, dictating how and when they may use magic, or if they are even permitted to study the arts of the arcane at all. But the fate of mages may be changing in Dragon Age 2, as we turn from Ferelden to the Free Marches.

Golems of Amgarrak released and reviewed
It was a slightly slower week in the Dragon Age news universe this week. Outside of Golems of Amgarrak releasing Tuesday, there was not a whole lot of new information available about Dragon Age 2 this week. So this week we’ll offer a look back at last week’s news and give you a couple interesting threads and articles from elsewhere to digest as we head forward.
As reported in GameInformer, Play Magazine, and online in this post, Bioware has given us a little more detail about the “framed narrative” that will be the Dragon Age 2 experience. Normally, this simply means that a series of small tales are told by a character in a larger tale. A common example is Arabian Nights in which the main character, Scheherazade, tells her husband a series of stories to keep him from killing her. Most of the book is actually taken up by the stories she tells and the “main” narrative of her and her husband plays a small role.
In the case of Dragon Age 2, Hawke will be narrating the stories which means he’s flashing back to other periods of his life. Well, if he’s flashing back, you say, doesn’t that mean the ending is already decided? That isn’t like Dragon Age: Origins at all!
Golems of Amgarrak: Review

Short and to the point
Golems of Amgarrak released today and after dusting off my Cousland, I tore through the new DLC. From what I had read about the release I didn’t exactly expect to tear through it so to say, but soon I was watching the credits and looked back and wondered where the DLC went. This short, punchy package delivered flares of challenges in a nice visual package, but felt shallow in terms of story. Check out the full, spoiler-free review below.
Remember, the DLC package releases tomorrow!
With Golems of Amgarrak set to release tomorrow, we’ll take a look at some additional lore that was released in the BioWare wiki regarding Caridin, the golems, House Dolvish and Amgarrak itself. This background information will help you better understand the history behind the powerful golems and the lost thaig of Amgarrak far in the Deep Roads.
